UMass Memorial Health Care, a four-hospital system based in Worcester, Mass., is moving forward with its plan to merge two of its hospitals: HealthAlliance Hospital in Leominster, Mass., and Clinton (Mass.) Hospital.
The system announced plans to merge the two facilities in August. The Massachusetts Health Policy Commission gave the transaction the go-ahead this month, according to the Boston Business Journal.
Tony Berry, a UMass Memorial spokesman, told the Boston Business Journal the merger "will further improve and expand services to patients, allow for the sharing of best practices, reduce wait times for outpatient and emergency care, minimize duplication and reduce the overall cost of care in our communities."
The deal still needs approval from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, according to the report.
