Shuttered California hospital strikes deal to reopen

Colusa (Calif.) RegionalMedicalCenterclosed in April, but hospital officials have signed a deal to reopen the facility, according to Action News Now.

Officials announced plans to close Colusa Regional in late March, and the hospital shut down April 22. Hospital officials cited reimbursement models under the ACA, loss of capital and a medical paradigm shift to outpatient care as the primary reasons for the closure.

Hoping to restore healthcare services in Colusa, American Specialty Healthcare in Modesto, Calif., began talks with Colusa Regional earlier this year. The parties have now inked a lease agreement, according to the report.

Under the agreement, Colusa Regional's emergency room, X-ray services, lab and sub-acute care center will be reopened. Colusa County Supervisor Mark Marshall told Action News Now the deal still needs to be approved by the bankruptcy court and the facility needs to be relicensed with the state before it can reopen. He hopes Colusa Regional will reopen in early 2017, according to the report.
