Kaleida continues aggressive growth strategy

Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health has signed a letter of intent to affiliate with Olean, N.Y.-based Upper Allegheny Health System.

Under the terms of the proposal, UAHS and its two hospitals, Bradford (Pa.) Regional Medical Center and Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital, will become part of Kaleida while remaining separate legal entities.

Brenda McGee, chair of the UAHS board of directors, said alignment with a larger system is a smart move.

"The affiliation with Kaleida Health is a strategic and proactive initiative that continues our efforts to secure and enhance healthcare for the Bradford and Olean communities well into the future," Ms. McGee said.

Kaleida Health President and CEO Jody Lomeo said the affiliation will benefit both systems through joint physician recruitment and information technology enhancement.

The proposed affiliation comes after Kaleida inked an affiliation agreement in April with Eastern Niagara Health System in Lockport, N.Y. In March, Kaleida announced affiliations with Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, N.Y., and TLC Health's Lake Shore Health Care Center in Irving, N.Y.
