Health Management Associates, a New York City-based healthcare consultancy group, has signed an agreement to acquire SVC, an Indianapolis-based consulting firm owned by Seema Verma, who was recently confirmed as administrator of CMS.
Following the acquisition, SVC will become a new HMA subsidiary, called HMA Medicaid Market Solutions, and will continue to advise state and federal agencies, health plans and health systems on approaches to serving Medicaid beneficiaries.
"We are pleased to welcome the employees of SVC to the HMA family," said HMA founder and President Jay Rosen. "This immensely talented group has extensive experience working closely with state officials and others in various states, including Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky and Ohio to design and implement innovative Medicaid solutions that advance alternatives to traditional Medicaid."
At the helm of SVC, Ms. Verma helped design the Healthy Indiana Plan — the state's version of Medicaid expansion under the ACA that requires beneficiaries to maintain health savings accounts and pay premium contributions. Indiana received a waiver from the Obama administration to implement the program, nicknamed HIP 2.0, in 2015.
