There were 24 publicly announced hospital acquisitions in the first quarter of 2016, and the dollar value of those transactions totaled $1.2 billion, according to data from Irving Levin Associates.
M&A activity in the hospital market was up 4 percent in the first quarter of 2016 compared with the fourth quarter of 2015. The dollar value of transactions fell 67 percent during the same period.
The largest acquisition in the first quarter was Brentwood, Tenn.-based RegionalCare Hospital Partners' $550 million acquisition of Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare. The combined entity has 18 hospital campuses in 12 states and $1.7 billion in revenue.
