Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Yale-New Haven Hospital consider pediatric partnership

Hartford-based Connecticut Children's Medical Center and Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Hospital are reportedly discussing a pediatric care partnership. If agreed upon and approved, the partnership would create one of the largest children's hospitals in the nation, according to the Hartford Courant.

In a joint statement, officials from both hospitals said they "have agreed to discuss a partnership to create a new Connecticut and regional system of pediatric care with national prominence and deep community engagement." Discussions are still at an early stage.

A spokesperson for the governor's office said Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy is aware of the discussions and he reportedly "looks forward to learning more details of what ultimately results from the dialogue," according to the article. The governor extended a moratorium on certain hospital mergers until January 2017. The moratorium only applies to transactions that may cause a health system's operating revenue to account for more than 20 percent of the combined hospital operating revenues of health systems in the state.
