Arcata, Calif.-based Mad River Community Hospital and management company Southwest Healthcare Services have ended sale discussions for the hospital.
The hospital shared that it was set to be acquired by Southwest Healthcare last May, with a final agreement initially expected last fall.
"While we know it is a challenging time for rural hospitals, we remain committed to doing what is best to support our employees, community, patients, and hospital," Doug Shaw, CEO of Mad River Community Hospital, said in a statement shared with Becker's.
While Mr. Shaw's statement did not address the reason behind both parties not moving forward with the acquisition, he said the hospital will continue to make investments in its people, facilities and staff.
A locally owned, independent hospital, Mad River Community Hospital comprises a five-bed emergency department and services including emergency medicine, physical therapy, OB, intensive care unit, radiological and medical/surgery. The hospital is also associated with additional clinics and programs, according to its website.
