Phoenix-based Banner Health on Tuesday completed its purchase of 32 urgent care facilities in Arizona from retail chain Urgent Care Extra.
The recently added urgent care centers were slated to officially become part of Banner on Oct. 1. However, there was a one-month delay which can be typical during these types of acquisitions, hospital officials said. Regardless, Banner was able to close the deal, and new signs will rebrand the centers as Banner Urgent Care.
All of the new Banner Urgent Care locations in the greater Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas.
"It's exciting to be able to offer this level of care to the Phoenix and Tucson communities," Joan Thiel, Banner Health vice president of ambulatory and physician services, said in a statement. "We anticipate serving thousands of people every year through Banner Urgent Care, providing them with the comprehensive services and support they have come to expect."
As part of this acquisition, more than 400 Urgent Care Extra employees have joined Banner Health, including physicians, advance practice providers, medical assistants and administrative staff.
With the most recent acquisition, Banner has 32 existing urgent care facilities and hopes to bump that number up to 50 by the end of 2017.
