5 things to know about Apollo Global Management

According to multiple sources, New York City-based Apollo Global Management is one of the private equity firms allegedly in talks to acquire Franklin, Tenn.- based Community Health System's assets.

Here are five things to know about Apollo Global Management:

1. Through the transaction, Apollo would add significant scale to its portfolio company, Brentwood, Tenn.-based RegionalCare Hospital Partners.

2. Apollo doubled the size of RegionalCare with the purchase of Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare in May. The merger created a $1.7 billion company with 18 hospitals in 12 states.

3. According to the firm's website, Apollo Global has nearly $186 billion in assets and has 960 employees with 15 offices worldwide.

4. It remains unclear whether Apollo Global plans to purchase Community Health System in its entirety or select CHS hospitals.

5. Apollo Global came under scrutiny by the Securities and Exchange Commission in August for misleading investors about certain fees and failing to inform investors about a loan the firm gave that deterred taxes on performance fees. The firm paid a $52.7 million settlement to resolve the charges.
