The following healthcare mergers, acquisitions and general transactions took place or were announced within the past week.
1. Baptist Health System and Tenet to create joint venture
Birmingham, Ala.-based Baptist Health System and Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corp. signed a definitive agreement to create a joint venture that will operate a healthcare network serving Birmingham and Central Alabama.
2. Tenet completes USPI, Aspen Healthcare transactions
Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare completed two major transactions, including its previously announced deal that will combine its ambulatory and imaging centers with those of United Surgical Partners International, which is owned by Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe.
3. Jefferson Health partners with Independence Blue Cross on healthcare innovation
Philadelphia-based Thomas Jefferson Health System and Independence Blue Cross announced a new multi-year agreement to partner on a healthcare innovation initiative. The $2 million partnership is called the Independence Blue Cross-Jefferson Health Innovation Collaboration.
4. Mid Coast Hospital purchases Parkview Adventist Medical Center
Parkview Adventist Medical Center (Brunswick, Maine), which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy relief June 16, will be purchased by Mid Coast Hospital also located in Brunswick.
5. Arizona hospitals launch new alliance
Five independent, nonprofit community hospitals in Arizona — Tuscon Medical Center, Benson Hospital, Mount Graham Regional Medical Center in Safford, Northern Cochise Community Hospital in Willcox and Copper Queen Community Hospital in Bisbee —formed the Southern Arizona Hospital Alliance.
