The following healthcare mergers, acquisitions and general partnerships took place or were announced in the past week.
1. Blackstone to acquire TeamHealth in $6B deal
The board of TeamHealth, a Knoxville, Tenn.-based physician services organization, unanimously approved an agreement to be acquired by Blackstone — a private equity, investment banking and asset management corporation — for $6.1 billion, including debt and other factors.
2. St. John's Medical Center partners with Huntsman Cancer Institute
Jackson, Wyo.-based St. John's Medical Center trustees agreed to partner with Salt Lake City-based research facility Huntsman Cancer Institute.
3. IU Health to expand reach with new hospital management contract
Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health entered into a preliminary agreement with Clinton County to begin managing operations of Frankfort (Ind.) Hospital, effective June 1, 2017.
4. CHI Franciscan, Virginia Mason sign LOI to affiliate
CHI Franciscan Health and Virginia Mason Health System signed a letter of intent to strike a clinical partnership and further align their roughly 1,600 physicians combined throughout the Puget Sound.
5. Rochester Regional Health acquires Eastside Medical Urgent Care
Rochester (N.Y.) Regional Health will acquire Penfield, N.Y.-based Eastside Medical Urgent Care, effective Nov. 1.
6. CHS-owned hospital partners with Nemours Children's to expand pediatric services
Pottstown (Pa.) Memorial Medical Center and Wilmington, Del.-based Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children will partner to provide advanced pediatric care for families in the Pottstown area.
7. Door County Medical Center, Hospital Sisters Health System embark on affiliation
Sturgeon Bay, Wis.-based Door County Medical Center will affiliate with Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System to deliver high quality healthcare to residents in the northeast Wisconsin.
8. Banner Health completes acquisition of 32 urgent care centers in Arizona
Phoenix-based Banner Health completed its purchase of 32 urgent care facilities in Arizona from retail chain Urgent Care Extra.
9. LHC Group, LifePoint Health to partner for home health and hospice
LHC Group and Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health plan to form a joint venture aimed at strengthening home health and hospice services.
10. MD Anderson seeks affiliation with UT San Antonio cancer center
Houston-based MD Anderson Cancer Center revealed plans to affiliate with the University of Texas at San Antonio's Cancer Therapy & Research Center to expand cancer treatment services throughout the state.
11. Laughlin Memorial Hospital, MSHA sign letter of intent to merge
Greeneville, Tenn.-based Laughlin Memorial Hospital and Johnson City, Tenn.-based Mountain States Health Alliance signed a letter of intent to merge.
12. RWJBarnabas Health, Rutgers partner on sports medicine program
West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health and New Brunswick, N.J.-based Rutgers University signed a partnership to create a comprehensive sports medicine program to serve Rutgers students, staff and the community.
13. Prime Healthcare acquires Ohio hospital
Prime Healthcare Foundation, the nonprofit affiliate of Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services, acquired 56-bed Coshocton (Ohio) County Memorial Hospital.
14. CHS to sell 17 hospitals to drive down debt
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems is in talks to sell hospitals and other assets to help trim its debt load, said CEO Wayne Smith during a third-quarter earnings call.
15. NYU Langone partners with National Women's Hockey League
New York University Langone, based in New York City, will become the official hospital for the National Women's Hockey League for the 2016-17 season.
16. Wellmont to officially own Takoma Regional Hospital
Kingsport, Tenn.-based Wellmont Health System is moving forward with plans to become the sole owner of Greeneville, Tenn.-based Takoma Regional Hospital.
