10 Kentucky health systems form statewide alliance: 6 things to know

A new statewide alliance formed among 10 Kentucky health systems has detailed its objectives and goals.

Here are six things to know about the alliance.

1. The alliance is known as the Kentucky Health Collaborative.

2. The 10 initial health systems who have signed on as charter members of the new collaborative are:

  • Appalachian Regional Healthcare (Lexington)
  • Baptist Health (Louisville)
  • Ephraim McDowell Health (Danville)
  • LifePoint Health (Brentwood, Tenn.)
  • Norton Healthcare (Louisville)
  • St. Claire Regional Medical Center (Morehead)
  • St. Elizabeth Healthcare (Edgewood)
  • The Medical Center (Bowling Green)
  • UK HealthCare (Lexington)
  • Owensboro Health (Owensboro)

3. Officials with the health systems said their primary objectives are raising the standards of care, addressing Kentucky's poor health statistics and lowering healthcare costs through greater efficiencies.

"As we begin to rollout our new vision for St. Elizabeth, to lead Northern Kentucky to become one of the healthiest communities in America, this collaborative will help us achieve this vision not only for Northern Kentucky, but all of Kentucky," Garren Colvin, St. Elizabeth president and CEO, said in a prepared statement. "Through the collaborative, all of our organizations will be able to accomplish collectively what no single one of our organizations could do alone. "

4. CEOs of the founding health systems are serving on a steering committee that is guiding the formation and development of Kentucky Health Collaborative.

5. The steering committee has also hired William "Bill" Shepley, who has more than 25 years of experience as a healthcare executive, as the inaugural executive director of the organization.

6. As the collaborative moves forward, it will extend the opportunity to join to a wider pool of potential members throughout Kentucky.
