The University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, has hosted its ninth annual "Celebrating Diversity" reception and dinner, which recognizes the school's heterogeneous community, honors the leaders who advocate for underrepresented students and helps raise funds for diversity scholarships.
Proceeds from the dinner, as well as individual contributions, go to the UM SOM's Dean Emeritus Donald E. Wilson Endowed Scholarship fund. The fund has helped create a new award, called the Wilson Legacy Scholarship, to support underrepresented minority students.
"I am truly proud that the school is constantly seeking opportunities to enhance diversity in ways that will transform the healthcare work force and address the needs of an increasingly diverse population," said Michael Cryor, Chairman of the UM SOM Board of Visitors. "It is a tremendous pleasure to work in support of an institution that is so committed to its surrounding community."
