Gino Mori, MD, completed 40,000 surgeries during his 37.5-year career in medicine. When he retired in 2001, many thought his career was over — but Dr. Mori had other plans.
Dr. Mori's lifelong thirst for education prompted him to enroll in the class of 2017 at Scranton, Penn.-based The Commonwealth Medical College, according to The Times-Tribune.
Because the public isn't allowed to sit in on medical school classes, many of Dr. Mori's classmates were puzzled by his presence. But they soon got to know him. While he utilized his existing knowledge to help them, they assisted him with modern technology, like his iPhone and MacBook.
"I just hope one day I can grow up and be a person like him," said Paula Morzenti, one of his classmates. "I will never forget that man."
Though he took the fall 2015 semester off to raise money for a medical scholarship, Dr. Mori will return to classes this spring.
