The Deloitte Center for Health Solutions has released a report exploring the current state of the patient-centered medical home, which found that while the PCMH can yield significant results with significant investment, a major challenge to the model's success is physician adoption, according to a Deloitte news release.
The report, "Medical Home 2.0: The Present, The Future" examined several PCMH pilot and offers key insights for the model going forward. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act includes the expansion of medical home pilot projects.
The study also found that healthcare information technology is an essential front-end investment for medical homes, and access to an adequate supply of primary care providers continues to be an issue.
