New Bedford, Mass.-based Southcoast Health System has filed plans with the state to sever its ties with Boston-based Tufts Medical Center's physician network, according to the Boston Globe.
According to Southcoast's filing with the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission, it plans to leave Tuft's network by the end of 2016 to start an independent physician group. Southcoast said launching its own physician group will help with efficiency and coordination of care, according to the report.
Regarding the change, Tufts spokeswoman Brooke Hynes told the Boston Globe, "We look forward to continuing our relationship until the end of this year and wish [Southcoast] much success in the future."
