Medscape is rolling out a new program for physicians who want to brush up on the business and regulatory aspects of their practice.
Dubbed Medscape Physician Business Academy, the free online program was designed by health business experts, many of whom are also physicians.
"As physicians, we understand the challenges — and the cost —of not providing solutions," Cheryl Pegus, MD, professor of medicine and population health at NYU Langone Medical Center and a Medscape Academy faculty member, said in a statement. "As faculty, we designed a program for physicians along with our business colleagues that we believe can help turn the situation around and make a difference in physicians' lives."
The Academy is designed to be a "realistic time commitment" that offers "courses that are relevant to the business aspects of medicine — including managing revenue, reimbursement, legal issues, new payment models, and business strategy and practice management," Dr. Pegus said in a statement. Course topics range from payer negotiations to EHRs to accounting.
Some courses will be eligible for continuing medical education credits. See the current course offerings here.
