The Health Resources and Services Administration awarded $149 million to a dozen workforce programs to help build the ranks of primary care providers, especially in underserved communities.
"Our vision is to positively impact every aspect of the health professional's career, from education and training to service," HRSA Acting Administrator Jim Macrae said in a statement. "These awards will increase the number of health professionals providing quality care to the nation’s most vulnerable populations."
HRSA hopes the awards will help foster partnerships between academic institutions, clinicians, healthcare sites and public health organizations, that will train and educate more culturally competent providers, according to Mr. Macrae.
The following grants were awarded:
- Primary Care Training and Enhancement — $14.5 million
- Advance Education Nursing Traineeship — $22.9 million
- Advanced Nursing Education — $11.3 million
- Graduate Psychology Education — $7.7 million
- Academic Units for Primary Care Training and Enhancement — $4.4 million
- Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship — $2.3 million
- Nurse Education Practice Quality and Retention - BSN Practicums in Community Settings — $3.1 million
- Nurse Education Practice Quality and Retention - Interprofessional Collaborative Practice: Behavioral Health Integration — $4.3 million
- Nurse Faculty Loan Program — $24.4 million
- Nursing Workforce Diversity — $4.5 million
- Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award — $7.4 million
- Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students — $42.3 million
