5 Critical Success Factors for Physician Employment Contracts

At the Becker's Hospital Review Annual Meeting in Chicago May 11, Craig Fowler, vice president of recruiting, training and public relations at Pinnacle Health Group, and Jeffrey Freygang, associate administrator at Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Neb., discussed strategies for developing successful physician compensation models.

Mr. Freygang shared five tips for attracting and retaining physicians:
1. Recruit a physician that is the "right fit."
2. Communicate clear expectations.
3. Provide comprehensive physician onboarding and training.
4. Provide physicians with ongoing support and feedback.
5. Build an employment contract that incents physicians to succeed and stay.

4. Benefits
5. Restrictive covenant (covenant not to compete)
