19 Texas hospitals receive $9.5M to expand healthcare workforce

More than $9.5 million in federal grants will be distributed to 19 hospitals, health systems and other organizations across Texas to enhance training for healthcare professionals, according to The Dallas Morning News.

The funding, announced Thursday, is part of a $149 million national effort by the Health Resources and Services Administration to improve access to healthcare in high-need areas, according to the report. The HRSA is a federal agency under HHS that focuses on improving healthcare access for the uninsured and medically vulnerable.

The grants will go to programs that add primary care physicians and advanced practice nurses through partnerships and training; improve access to behavioral healthcare in underserved communities; encourage diversity and collaboration; and help retain clinicians in rural areas, according to the report.

The full list of the grant recipients can be viewed on HRSA's website.
