The practice executives at Medtronic, Google and Goldman Sachs trust to boost creativity

Executives across industries are taking up mindfulness meditation in an effort to reduce stress and increase creative thinking, according to the Harvard Business Review.

When responsibilities begin to accumulate and leaders feel stressed, taking 10 minutes to meditate can help them switch gears and think problems through more clearly. Regularly meditating can cultivate a sense of resilience and help regulate emotions. This kind of meditation also activates divergent thinking and opens one's mind to new ideas while improving attention and focus.

It does not take more than 10 or 12 minutes to effectively meditate, but it is important to focus exclusively on meditation during that time. It is necessary to meditate somewhere quiet where without disturbances.

Focus groups conducted with people who have meditated compared with people who haven't found both groups came up with a similar number of ideas during brainstorming sessions, but those who meditated before had a wider range of ideas than non-meditators.
