Ten hospitals and health systems were deemed the most diverse in the U.S., according to DiversityInc's 2016 rankings. DiversityInc's ranking of healthcare organizations is a specialty list included in its ranking of Top 50 Companies for Diversity, an annual list now in its 17th year.
More than 1,800 companies participated in the survey in 2016. DiversityInc's diversity survey leads to a detailed, empirically-driven ranking. It assesses performance based on the following four key areas of diversity management:
- Talent pipeline: Workforce breakdown, recruitment and diameter of existing talent
- Equitable talent development: Employee resource groups, mentoring, philanthropy and fairness
- CEO/leadership commitment: Accountability for results, personal communication and visibility
- Supplier diversity: Spend with companies owned by people from underrepresented groups, accountability and support

(No. 16), Indianapolis-based Anthem (No. 25), Indianapolis-based Eli and Lilly Co.
