Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Education committee, said he hopes to put the finishing touches this week on a bill to stabilize individual insurance markets, according to The Hill.
After two weeks of hearings from a bipartisan selection of governors, state insurance commissioners and other insurance experts, Mr. Alexander said the committee planned to craft a bill that funds cost-sharing reduction subsidies, allows people to purchase high-deductible health plans and gives states flexibility to approve insurance plans and rates.
Democrats are on record as being opposed to the high-deductible "copper plans," but Mr. Alexander has said that if Democrats want to fund cost-sharing reduction subsidies they must accept some of the demands of the Republican legislators who control both houses of Congress.
