President Barack Obama will speak at the Catholic Health Association's annual assembly on June 9 in Washington, D.C.
The assembly will mark CHA's 100th anniversary, and President Obama's remarks will conclude the three-day meeting. More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the event this year.
Sister Carol Keehan, CHA's president and CEO, said the following in a statement: "As long-time supporters of a healthcare system that works for everyone and pays special attention to those who are poor and vulnerable, we are grateful for the President's leadership on the ACA."
Sister Keehan, a Daughter of Charity, has led CHA since 2005 and is a key ally for the healthcare reform law and supports the idea under Catholic social teaching that healthcare is the right of every human person. She recently penned an op-ed in the Courier-Journal urging the Supreme Court to leave the law untouched as it decides King v. Burwell.
The association represents more than 600 Catholic hospitals.
