OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital is outsourcing the functions of three departments and eliminating more than 20 middle management positions, according to a Mansfield News Journal report.
Here are 10 things to know.
1. The restructuring affected a total of 80 employees.
2. OhioHealth Mansfield is outsourcing its linens, transcription and childcare services, Jean Halpin, president of OhioHealth Mansfield and Shelby hospitals, told the Mansfield News Journal. The hospital also cut 22 management positions in its lab and nutrition services areas, including supervisors, directors and managers, according to the report. Additionally, OhioHealth Mansfield will not replace the hospital's recently retired vice president of clinical services.
3. The hospital expects to save about $1 million through the restructuring. Those funds will be reinvested in different areas of OhioHealth Mansfield, according to the report.
4. But the hospital noted the move is not solely about finances. Ms. Halpin said in the report that the changes will also help the hospital focus on patient care, as management employees in dual clinical and supervisory roles will now concentrate on their clinical roles.
5. Numerous positions are being re-posted to get rid of redundancy as their responsibilities change, including working nights and weekends, and employees can reapply for the jobs, Ms. Halpin told the Mansfield News Journal.
6. According to the report, the hospital's linen services will transfer to Comtex Laundry. Five of the 19 linens employees will still be OhioHealth employees. The other 14 employees will have the opportunity to transfer to other entry-level positions, Ms. Halpin said in the report.
7. The hospital's transcription services will transfer to medical transcriptio ncompany MModal. The 14 transcription employees at the hospital will have the option to transfer to positions with MModal, according to the report.
8. Additionally, Ms. Halpin told Mansfield News Journal, the hospital is seeking a partner to take over the hospital's childcare services. She also told the publication she hopes the current 16 hospital childcare employees will be able to transfer to the new childcare company.
9. The changes in the linen and transcription services, as well as the management changes, are slated to take effect in mid-January, according to the report. The childcare services changes are slated to take effect at the end of June.
10. Commenting on the job cuts, Ms. Halpin said: "As hospital administrators, we must continually keep an eye on the bottom line and make adjustments as necessary to ensure we continue to provide the highest quality of care at the lowest possible cost. To not do that would be irresponsible. As difficult as these decisions have been, they had to be made to position us for long-term success."
