The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses' Surgical Conference and Expo serves as a gathering place for thousands of the world's operating room RNs every year. This year, a nurse from Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Medical Center got a little more than she bargained for at the expo.
Diane Betti, MSN, BSN, RN, the director of inpatient OR/preop/post-anesthesia care unit and sterile processing department at the hospital, was surprised by her colleague Cathi Dutton, RN, the clinical nurse educator in perioperative services at Baystate, as part of the RNspire nurse appreciation program run by Cardinal Health.
Cardinal Health encouraged nurses to nominate fellow inspirational nurses through the RNspire program. Ms. Betti was nominated by Ms. Dutton and chosen by Cardinal Health to receive the in-person recognition at AORN 2016.
According to the nomination, Ms. Betti started her career in healthcare as a surgical technologist in the OR. She continued her education and went on to receive her BSN and her MSN. She rose through the ranks to her current position, but "never lost sight of what's the most important, our patients."
Cardinal Health coordinated with Ms. Dutton to surprise Ms. Betti with the recognition on Sunday at the expo. She received a plaque as part of the recognition.
