Mishawaka, Ind.-based Franciscan Alliance will be known as Franciscan Health as of Sept. 12, and the newly named system will also rename 12 of its 14 hospitals.
The system's Indiana hospitals in Crown Point, Michigan City, Crawfordsville, Lafayette (two hospitals), Carmel, Indianapolis, Mooresville, Dyer and Hammond and its Illinois hospitals in Chicago Heights and Olympia Fields will all drop saint's names from their names. For instance, Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point will become Franciscan Health Crown Point, Franciscan St. Francis Health-Lafayette East will become Franciscan Health Lafayette East, and so on.
Franciscan Health Munster and Franciscan Health Rensselaer in Indiana will retain their names, as they are already consistent with the new brand.
Health system leaders say the new names reflect the system's integration and alignment.
"The evolution of our hospital names is important because it further underscores the combined strength of our system, offering patients and their families a full continuum of high-quality, compassionate care," Sister Jane Marie Klein, chairwoman of the Franciscan Alliance board of trustees, said. "Franciscan Health, like Franciscan Alliance, creates a unified and memorable name acknowledging our faith-based mission: Continuing Christ's Ministry in our Franciscan Tradition."
A Franciscan statement notes the name change is "a strategic and necessary action" to emphasize its "shared capabilities."
