Gaithersburg, Md.-based Sodexo will no longer provide food service at Cleveland Clinic's main campus, affecting 383 workers, according to The Plain Dealer.
Cleveland Clinic's contract with Sodexo at the main campus is expected to end June 30. In the meantime, Cleveland Clinic is working to finalize a contract with another vendor who will begin providing food service July 1, according to an emailed statement from the health system.
"It is our hope and expectation that Sodexo and our new vendor will work together and extend offers to the workforce on our main campus," the statement reads. Cleveland Clinic said Sodexo will still provide food service at Cleveland Clinic Akron (Ohio) General, and Philadelphia-based Aramark will still provide food service at Cleveland Clinic's regional and Florida facilities.
The contract termination affects 383 employees, including 215 food service workers, 25 cooks, 31 supervisors and numerous other positions, according to the report, which cites a federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice filed with the Cuyahoga County Department of Job and Family Services.
The notice states: "Sodexo will close its operations at this facility and the employment of individuals there by Sodexo will be discontinued. This action is expected to be permanent," reports The Plain Dealer.
Commenting on the contract termination, Sodexo said in an emailed statement it has proudly served the main campus of Cleveland Clinic for more than a year, and the company and Cleveland Clinic made the decision "after careful consideration of operational and business considerations."
"Sodexo remains committed to the highest level of patient service and employee engagement throughout the transition period to a new service provider. We will continue to provide the highest quality service for the other relationships we will maintain within the Cleveland Clinic portfolio," the company added.
