Blount Memorial in Tenn. to eliminate 100 full-time positions

Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tenn., will cut 100 full-time positions by April 15, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Hospital officials have worked over the past few months to transition affected employees to other open positions at Blount Memorial. As of this week, only 40 employees will be laid off due to their positions being cut, according to the report.

"Currently, we are at a point where the budgeted workforce and the activity of the medical economic environment, including payer activities, aren't adding up and haven't for a period of time," Blount Memorial CEO Don Heinemann said in a news release, according to the report. "We have held out as long as we could in hopes that this would change, but this simply hasn't been the case, which means we must make adjustments."
