Anthony Tersigni, EdD, President and CEO of St. Louis-based Ascension, is scheduled to meet with President-elect Donald Trump's transition team on Dec. 7 to discuss repairing America's healthcare system, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
With more than 36 years of healthcare operations experience, Dr. Tersigni has led organizations through difficult and changing times in the industry, and he realizes the recent Republican sweep of the White House and Congress will likely lead to health policy changes in the year ahead.
Dr. Tersigni told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he understands certain parts of the ACA will change, as Republican lawmakers and President-elect Trump have made some form of an ACA repeal a high priority. However, he believes there are certain parts of the health reform law that need to be protected.
"There's a lot of good that came out of that legislation, so let's not kill it because it's tied to one party or one president," he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
During the meeting in Washington, D.C., Dr. Tersigni plans to present the transition team with a list of the policy changes under the ACA he liked, such as eliminating lifetime and annual caps on benefits and making preventive screenings and vaccines free.
