Money Atwal, CFO of Honolulu-based Hawaii Health Systems Corp.'s East Hawaii region, will be taking an extended leave of absence, according to a Hawaii Tribune-Herald report.
Here are five things to know about Mr. Atwal and his departure.
1. He will be taking the extended leave "to pursue other opportunities and personal interests," according to the report, which cites a Thursday memo to staffers from Dan Brinkman, CEO of the East Hawaii region.
2. It is unclear exactly what led to his departure, or why Mr. Atwal is taking an extended leave instead of resigning or being terminated.
3. Officials will implement an interim plan and begin recruitment for a new CFO.
4. Mr. Atwal joined HHSC's East Hawaii region in January 2007.
5. His departure comes after other changes were made to the East Hawaii region's executive team. According to the report, Arthur Sampaga Jr. was appointed East Hawaii regional CNO; Lisa Shiroma was appointed assistant administrator for imaging, pharmacy and clinics; and Reynold Cabarloc was appointed assistant administrator for facility and support services. His departure also comes after administrators of East Hawaii's health care network announced layoffs and service cuts to deal with an anticipated shortfall of $7 million for the 2015-16 fiscal year, according to the Hawaii Tribune-Herald.
