Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems has named two top executives for its planned spin-off of 38 hospitals and Quorum Health Resources into a separate company called Quorum Health Corp.
Here are 12 things to know about the executives.
Thomas D. Miller will serve as CEO of the new company.
1. Mr. Miller currently serves as president of Division V Operations for CHS and oversees the operations of affiliated hospitals in Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
2. In total, Mr. Miller has more than 30 years of experience in hospital operations and executive management.
3. He joined CHS in connection with the acquisition of Triad Hospitals in July 2007.
4. Prior to joining CHS, from 1998 through 2007, he served as the president and CEO of Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Lutheran Health Network, a system that has grown to include eight hospital facilities.
5. During the early years of his tenure at Lutheran, the health system was operated by Quorum Health Group, a predecessor of Quorum Health Resources.
6. Mr. Miller earned a bachelor's degree from Auburn (Ala.) University and a master's degree in hospital and health administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
7. He currently serves on the board of trustees of the American Hospital Association.
Michael J. Culotta will serve as CFO of Quorum Health Corp.
8. Mr. Culotta currently serves as vice president of investor relations for CHS.
9. He joined CHS in 2013.
10. He is an experienced healthcare finance executive who has served as CFO at two publicly traded companies — both of which were successful spin-offs.
11. From 2007 to 2013, Mr. Culotta was CFO of PharMerica Corporation. He held the same role at Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Hospitals, now LifePoint Health, from 2001 to 2007. Prior to that, Mr. Culotta was a partner with Ernst & Young where he worked for 24 years.
12. He earned his bachelor's degree from Baton Rouge-based Louisiana State University and is a certified public accountant, licensed in Tennessee, Texas and Florida.
