The leadership exodus at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Broward Health continues with the departures of Dionne Wong, senior vice president for human resources, and Mark Sprada, interim chief executive of Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, according to a Sun Sentinel report.
The resignations come on the heels of Senior Vice President Doris Peek's exit. Ms. Peek resigned after a law firm, hired by the public health system, accused her of improperly steering nearly $1.7 million to a marketing firm in a report.
Broward's leadership has been in a state of near-constant turmoil since January 2016 after then CEO Nabil El Sanadi, MD, was found dead in his home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Three CEOs have led the system since then, with Beverly Capasso, RN, currently serving at the helm. Ms. Capasso, formerly a board member, took on the CEO role in May, following interim CEO Kevin Fusco's retirement. She already has come under fire for holding a master's in healthcare administration degree from Kennedy-Western University, a diploma mill that shut down in 2009 after it failed to receive accreditation.
While the hospital has not stated who will take over Ms. Wong's role, Mr. Sprada chief executive responsibilities will be given to Broward Health Medical Center COO Sandra Todd-Atkinson, and CFO Alex Fernandez, the Sun Sentinel reports.
Through the health system's public relations firm, Broward Health Board Chairman Rocky Rodriguez issued the following statement, according to the report: "We respect employees' rights to resign. Broward Health's focus is on preparing for the future and building a dynamic team."
