13 latest hospital, health system executive moves

The following hospital and health system executive moves were reported by Becker's Hospital Review in the last week. They are listed below, beginning with the most recent.

1. Indianapolis-based St. Vincent Health, a member of St. Louis-based Ascension Health, named Tom VanOsdol, president of the St. Vincent Anderson Northeast Region, as the new COO of clinically integrated systems of care for St. Vincent's HealthCare in Jacksonville, Fla.

2. Melbourne, Fla.-based Wuesthoff Health System named CEOs for two of its medical centers. Ron Gicca was named CEO of Wuesthoff Medical Center – Melbourne. Gary Malaer was named CEO of Wuesthoff Medical Center – Rockledge (Fla.).

3. Roger Howard, president and CEO of Lawrenceburg, Ind.-based Dearborn County Hospital, plans to retire next year.

4. Tim Brierty, who served as CEO of San Antonio-based University Hospital for five years, confirmed he is no longer at his post.

5. Michael Connelly, president and CEO of Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, N.H., announced his resignation.

6. York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health named Carrie Willetts senior vice president for the health system and president of WellSpan Ephrata (Pa.) Community Hospital.

7. HealthEast Care System, based in St. Paul, Minn., is making internal organizational and leadership changes. As part of the changes, Bethesda Hospital President Cathy Barr, a senior vice president of ambulatory and community services, was named COO. Additionally, HealthEast senior vice president and CMO Steve Kolar, MD, plans to retire in January. Kevin Garrett, MD, vice president and executive medical director, will take over as CMO and will partner with Ms. Barr overseeing care delivery.

8. Miami Cancer Institute at Coral Gables-based Baptist Health South Florida, which is scheduled to open in 2016, appointed Michael Zinner, MD, a founding CEO and executive medical director.

9. Littleton (Colo.) Adventist Hospital has a new CMO and COO. Alan Verrill, MD, was named CMO. Michael "Mike" Brendel, RN, was named COO.

10. Foundation Surgical Hospital of San Antonio appointed Blake Hubbard CEO.

11. The board of directors at Buffalo, N.Y.-based Erie County Medical Center Corp. voted to remove CEO Richard Cleland.

12. El Rio Community Hospital in Tucson, Ariz., named Nancy Johnson, PhD, CIO.

13. The University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington appointed Doug Gentile, MD, CMIO.
