Charles L. Stewart, MHA, FACHE, serves as market CEO of Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates' Arkansas Market, which includes Fort Smith, Ark.-based Sparks Health System and Summit Medical Center in Van Buren, Ark. He most recently served as HMA's market CEO for southeast Missouri. The southeast Missouri market is comprised of Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Regional Medical Center and Twin Rivers Medical Center in Kennett, Mo.
Prior to joining HMA, Mr. Stewart was with Oglethorpe, Ga.-based Hutcheson Health system, where he served as president and CEO.
Though he only led HMA's southeast Missouri market for a little over a year, Mr. Stewart achieved much in that short period of time. He added six physicians to the market. He also contracted with a new anesthesiology group, which led to annual savings of $1.5 million.
More significantly, Mr. Stewart oversaw the construction of a new campus for Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and led the physical move of patients to the new campus in January. "This new hospital campus is not only a demonstration of PBRMC's commitment to bring the very best healthcare close to home, but also of our dedication and commitment to the future of our community and the long-term growth and success of the region," Mr. Stewart said in a news release.
Previously, outside of overseeing PBRMC and Twin Rivers Medical Center, Mr. Stewart was involved in the local community. He was on the board of the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Poplar Bluff Rotary Club and the Poplar Bluff Masonic Lodge 209.
Mr. Stewart earned his master's degree in hospital and health administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also holds a master's degree in education and counseling, which he also earned from UAB.
