Sixty-nine percent of healthcare providers said employing an IT solution improved sepsis outcomes, whether in terms of length of stay, mortality, readmissions or treatment costs, according to a KLAS Research report.
In the report — titled Sepsis 2017: Which vendors can help? — KLAS found many providers are using monitoring technology through EHR vendors and third-party providers to improve sepsis care. Although specialized surveillance vendors like Wolters Kluwer and VigiLanz offer dedicated modules to fill gaps in EHR functionality, most providers said they would prefer to rely on their EHR vendor for sepsis technology.
Here's how providers responded when asked which EHR vendors were somewhat or very focused on sepsis technology development.
1. Epic: 76 percent
2. Cerner: 69 percent
3. Allscripts: 57 percent
4. Meditech: 37 percent
5. McKesson: 14 percent
