Pennsylvania-based University of Pittsburgh, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center have developed an open source software resource called TCGA Expedition.
TCGA Expedition continuously downloads, processes and manages data from The Cancer Genome Atlas, a collection of genomic data related to 33 different cancers run by the National Cancer Institute and the National Human Genome Research Institute. With TCGA Expedition, researchers can investigate large datasets more effectively to identify potential methods of cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Although this software was designed for TCGA data, University of Pittsburgh says it can applied to other large datasets.
