The vast majority of patients want online access to their X-rays, radiology reports and other medical images, according to a survey conducted by healthcare marketing company IDR Medical.
Of the 1,000 adults surveyed, 85 percent wanted to be able to view medical images and reports through an online patient portal. The results held even among older patients — 59.5 percent of patients over 71 years old wanted the option of online access.
Allowing patients to view medical images and reports online may help providers retain patients, as 79 percent of respondents said online imaging access would make them more likely to return to the same facility in the future.
