Spok rolls out pager with HIPAA-compliant secure messaging

Spok, a Springfield, Va.-based software company and subsidiary of Spok Holdings, has launched its T52 pager.

This pager allows for secure messaging with two-way devices like smartphones, handhelds or other pagers. Messages are encrypted as they enter the Spok network and are decrypted upon receipt to be displayed to the user. With this encryption service, T52 is able to encourage communication while maintaining HIPAA compliance requirements.

"A broad, flexible and device-neutral communications infrastructure is the best foundation for swift, cost effective care coordination," said Vincent D. Kelly, president and CEO of Spok Holdings. "With encrypted communication options, like the T52 and Spok Mobile secure text messaging app, healthcare organizations can support device preference, while ensuring HIPAA compliance."
