Rhode Island appointed Bijay Kumar its CIO and chief digital officer, StateScoop reports.
Mr. Kumar's initial priorities will involve establishing IT governance and modernizing the state's health portal. He replaces Thom Guertin, the state's former CIO and chief digital officer, who resigned following challenges with the portal's health and human services eligibility gateway.
At the time of Mr. Guertin's resignation, Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo said the state would replace Mr. Guertin with a candidate who did a "better job" holding vendors and agencies accountable for the portal's United Healthcare Infrastructure Project, according to StateScoop.
Mr. Kumar most recently served six years as a vice president of Hasbro, a Pawtucket, R.I.-based multinational toy company. Prior to joining Hasbro, he held positions at Staples and JDA Software.
