The U.S. Office of Personnel Management revised instructions for how agencies assign codes to federal cybersecurity positions, according to Federal News Radio.
"The coding allows us to consistently describe the tasks, functions and work roles of federal cybersecurity positions and leverage the affiliated [knowledge, skills and abilities] in job opportunity announcements, applicant assessments and staff development," the OPM's guidance reads.
The revised Cybersecurity Data Standard Codes include multiple changes. For example, CIOs, human resources staff and classification staff will identify vacant IT positions and assign each one a three-digit code. Previously, the codes were only two digits.
The OPM joined forces with various stakeholder groups to create the new revised codes.
