ONC awarded R. Jason Cronk and Professor Daniel J. Solove first place — and $20,000 — in its Privacy Policy Snapshot Challenge.
The challenge asked designers, developers and health data privacy experts to create Model Privacy Notice generators that detail the privacy and security policies for various apps, wearables or other consumer health devices — similar to how food products include nutrition labels. The ONC received 13 submissions for the challenge, which was launched in December.
The winning generator featured a side-by-side view that allows developers to see live updates of their MPN as they complete an app's sections. The generator further enables the developers to see which sections are complete and which require more information.
"The winners designed innovative tools that will help make privacy notices easier for consumers to understand, so they can know how and why their health information is being shared," said Genevieve Morris, principal deputy national coordinator for health IT.
The challenge's runners-up were 1upHealth's team and MadeClear.io.
