MidMichigan Health to adopt Epic EHR for $55M

Midland, Mich.-based MidMichigan Health plans to implement Epic's EHR platform at all the hospitals, physician offices and outpatient care facilities in its 15-county region.

The health system is investing $55 million in the implementation and expects to regain this money within six years through new efficiencies the EHR system will bring.

"Our current state of multiple vendor systems requires us to maintain a large number of custom interfaces," said Dan Waltz, CIO of MidMichigan Health. "This has simply become unsustainable, both in terms of the cost to maintain those systems and the potential risk and confusion that it introduces."

Individuals on the implementation team have already headed to Wisconsin for training, and the health system plans to start configuring Epic's software early this year. MidMichigan plans to go live on the EHR in hospitals and physician offices in April 2017.
