The MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper in New Jersey has partnered with Polaris Health Direction to launch a pilot project using Apple Watch aimed at coaching breast cancer patients, according to Apple Insider.
The pilot project will be tested with about 30 patients who have been outfitted with Apple watches. The project will examine patients at two different stages, both immediately after diagnosis and after treatment is finished.
The watches will use a HealthKit-compatible app developed by Polaris that will connect to its behavioral health management platform so patients and providers can monitor patient behavior. The app measures activity, moods and sleep and patients will be alerted based on their behaviors. For example, if they are not exercising enough, the app will alert patients to get moving.
The project is subject to review by the Cooper Institutional Review Board, according to the report.
