Once an NBA star, Kobe Bryant is making his move into the venture capital field. He launched a $100 million venture capital firm with entrepreneur and investor partner Jeff Stibel, and they plan to invest in technology, media and data companies, reports The Wall Street Journal.
The Bryant Stibel firm will be based in Los Angeles, where Mr. Bryant spent all 20 years of his NBA career playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Since 2013, Mr. Bryant and Mr. Stibel have invested in 15 companies, but the pair formalized their relationship and their venture capital funds after Mr. Bryant retired from basketball at the end of the 2015-16 season, according to the report.
Recent investments from Bryant Stibel include a videogame designer, a legal services company, a telemarketing software firm and a home-juicing company, reports WSJ.
While there are no healthcare-focused companies in the mix right now, they aren't out of the question. Mr. Stibel is a "brain scientist," according to his biography in his book "Breakpoint," which explores the intersection of the brain, biology and technology.
