Ivo Nelson has named the first recipient of the John P. Glaser Health Informatics Innovator Award.
Here are four things to know about Mr. Nelson and the honor he has received.
1. The John P. Glaser Health Informatics Society was created in January 2016. The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Biomedical Informatics established the society, which is named for John P. Glaser, PhD, a leader in the health informatics field. The Society will officially be launched on October 4, 2016.
2. Mr. Nelson was dubbed the first award recipient on April 19, 2016. On October 4, he'll be inducted into the Society.
3. Since beginning his career, Mr. Nelson has gone on to play various roles in the world of healthcare. His first position was at Perot Systems, which went on to be acquired by IBM. He co-founded Encore Health Resources — a health IT services company which was eventually acquired by Quintiles — in 2009. Currently, Mr. Nelson serves as chairman and CEO of Next Wave Health, an investment firm that assists startup companies.
4. Mr. Nelson serves in multiple other positions and has received multiple honors over the years. He serves on the boards of Encore Health Resources, MedSynergies, HealthPost and SourceMed. In addition, he has been honored with the HIMSS Leadership Award and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
