In July, CVS Health Corp. informed Molina Healthcare, based in Long Beach, Calif., a former CVS employee inappropriately accessed protected health information of Molina Medicare Options Plus HMO patients in March.
CVS is Molina Healthcare's over-the-counter benefits vendor. Now, Molina Healthcare is notifying 54,203 affected patients of the data breach, according to a SC Magazine report.
A former CVS employee emailed PHI of the affected Molina Healthcare patients from CVS computers to his personal computer, according to the report. The breach affects both current and past members of Molina Health in California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.
CVS issuing new CVS ExtraCare Cards with new account numbers to current Molina Health members affected by the breach and offering a free year of identity theft protection, according to the report.
