Imprivata, Nuance bring speech recognition technology to health IT

Lexington, Mass.-based Imprivata's secure communications platform, Imprivata Cortext, supports clinical speech recognition through Burlington, Mass.-based Nuance's cloud platform, Dragon Medical One.

Dragon Medical is embedded in Imprivata Cortext. Providers can speak at more than 150 words per minute and the platform will quickly transcribe their words. The technology includes a medical dictionary and special language models for healthcare.

"Clinicians want technology that is easy to use and that gives them more time back in their day to spend with patients. By assuring that complex medical terminology is recognized quickly and accurately, and communicated securely from anywhere, speech-to-text functionality greatly improves clinician productivity and therefore benefits patients and the entire healthcare enterprise," said Ed Gaudet, general manager for the Imprivata Cortext product line.
