HHS' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology unveiled the winners of Phase 1 of the Move Health Data Forward Challenge, which hopes to help individuals and clinicians reap the benefits of health IT.
The Move Health Data Forward Challenge helps organizations strive to create privacy and security metrics that allow individuals to control authorization access to their health information.
The following Phase 1 recipients had to demonstrate plans for the technical, operational, financial and business aspects of their solution. They each received $5,000.

- Foxhall Wythe
- kreateIoT, Technatomy and Koncero
- Lush Group
- Live and Leave Well
- SpunJohn Consultants
- Thoughtkeg Application Services Corporation
- Resilient Network Systems, Webshield and SAFE Biopharma
The winners will move on to Phase 2, during which five winners will receive $20,000 for forming a workable prototype. During Phase 3, up to two winners will receive $50,000 based on their ability to apply their solution.
"As health information technology becomes more accessible, consumers are playing an even greater role in how and when their health information is exchanged or shared," Vindell Washington, MD, national coordinator for health information technology, said in a statement. "The Move Health Data Forward Challenge will help consumers unleash their health data and put it to work."
