Here's how 5 health IT groups responded to MACRA's 2018 QPP rule

CMS closed the comment period for its 2018 proposed rule for the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act's Quality Payment Program Monday.

Here's how five health IT advocacy groups responded to the 2018 QPP rule.

American Medical Informatics Association urged CMS to set a deadline for the 2015-edition certified EHR technology. They recommended Jan. 1, 2019.

College of Healthcare Information Management Executives released a chart that broke down the new rule and compared its changes throughout the years, because it claims the MIPS requirements are too complicated.

"Rather than layering on multiple new and complicated bonus structures such as the one for improving quality," CHIME urged CMS to "look to ways to take a more minimalistic approach that removes rather than adds layers."

Electronic Health Record Association did not think CMS set clear enough expectations on how virtual groups should report data.

"We encourage CMS to provide more details about this as soon as possible, so we can be prepared to implement the identifier and support eligible clinicians reporting in this manner," it wrote.

Health IT Now emphasized MACRA's need for widespread interoperability by the end of 2018.

"As that date quickly approaches, it is becoming more apparent that this is yet another deadline that will not be reached … There is much work left to be done to ensure data can flow seamlessly through the health care system," the organization's comments read.

Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and Personal Connected Health Alliance suggested HHS require CMS and ONC adopt an "aggressive and thorough quality measures testing program" before adding required electronic clinical quality measures under MIPS.
